Overview
A web-based concession management portal designed for college students to request subsidized railway travel passes. It replaced manual paper submissions and long queues with a streamlined digital verification and administrative approval workflow.
Problem & Approach
Thousands of students stood in physical administrative queues each semester with paper application forms, burdening office staff with manual document checks and slow certificate issuance.
Built a responsive web application using JavaScript and Firebase Authentication/Firestore, providing dedicated portals for student submissions and administrative approval processing.
System Architecture
- Frontend UI
- HTML5, CSS3, and modern Vanilla JavaScript with responsive layouts.
- Backend & Auth
- Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore for real-time document storage.
Features & Deliverables
- 01Digital Concession Request SubmissionImplemented
Students submit pass requirements, route details, and verify ID documents online.
- 02Admin Approval & Verification DashboardImplemented
Administrative staff verify student eligibility and update pass status in real time.
- 03Status Tracking PipelineImplemented
Real-time visibility into application progress (Submitted, Under Review, Approved, Ready for Collection).
Technical Challenges
ProblemPreventing students from submitting overlapping duplicate concession applications.
Resolution:Implemented Firestore query constraints validating existing active pass expiry dates before allowing new submissions.
